43% of small and medium businesses are victims of cyberattacks every year. And the majority of them have no protection in place. If you think "it only happens to big corporations", you're wrong.
SMEs are easy targets
Hackers don't only target large companies. On the contrary, SMEs are prime targets precisely because they're less protected. An outdated WordPress site, a weak password, a phishing email: that's often enough to breach your system.
The average cost of a cyberattack for an SME in Europe is 25,000 euros. Not counting the loss of client trust and the time spent getting everything back in order.
The basics: SSL and HTTPS
If your site isn't on HTTPS, that's the first problem to fix. Google penalises unsecured sites in its results, and browsers display a "Not Secure" warning that scares away your visitors.
An SSL certificate is free (Let's Encrypt) or included with most hosts. There's no excuse not to have it in 2026.
Security headers
HTTP headers are instructions your server sends to the browser. The right headers block common attacks: script injection (XSS), clickjacking, content sniffing.
Essential headers to configure:
- Content-Security-Policy: controls which scripts can execute
- X-Frame-Options: prevents your site from being embedded in a malicious iframe
- Strict-Transport-Security: forces HTTPS
- X-Content-Type-Options: prevents MIME sniffing
Monitoring
You can't protect what you don't monitor. 24/7 monitoring alerts you immediately if your site goes down, if someone attempts an intrusion, or if a certificate expires.
At Pixel Noir, we monitor your sites continuously. If something goes wrong, we intervene before it becomes a problem.
GDPR compliance
In Belgium, GDPR is not optional. You must inform your visitors about the data collected, obtain their consent for cookies, and have an up to date privacy policy.
Fines for non compliance can reach 4% of your annual turnover. For an SME, that can be fatal.
