Boucherie Leopold

A craft butcher in Jette, Brussels, since 2010. We did all of it: the site, the online shop, the product photos and the search work.

Butcher, in-store pickup, Jette

Boucherie Leopold has run its counter on rue Léopold I in Jette since 2010. It handed us everything: the site in three languages, the online shop with pickup at the counter, a photo for each product and the search work. The butcher runs it from his phone: his prices, his opening hours, his out-of-stock items.

Demo shown in French. Studio itself runs in English.

Demonstration. The customer and the order are fictional.

The problem

On Saturday morning the queue spills onto the pavement. Some customers give up, others buy less than planned. There was no way to order ahead.

The butcher spends his days between the block and the counter. Every call to reserve a cut or ask a price stops a knife.

So it needed a shop where you order ahead, and photos that live up to what sits behind the glass.

What we did

  1. 01The site: three colours, charcoal, paper and red, the name in shop-sign capitals, and the town in the title.
  2. 02The online shop: 48 products in five aisles, sold by weight or by the piece. The customer picks 250 g, 1 kg or any weight, then a pickup slot.
  3. 03Payment by Bancontact, a confirmation email with a pickup code to show at the counter, and cancellation possible up to 24 hours before.
  4. 04The photos, from A to Z: the butcher shoots his cuts with his phone and sends them to us. We redo the setting, the light and the framing, on slate, all in the same style. The meat stays his.
  5. 05The translations: the whole site and the whole catalogue in French, Dutch and English.
  6. 06The search work: one page per product, the frequent questions marked up for Google, a blog of cooking advice, and the site declared to Bing and to search assistants.

What Studio brings

Photos that make you hungry

A phone photo taken behind the counter becomes a shop photo: same slate, same light, same framing across the catalogue. We do not touch the meat, because in a shop the photo is a promise. 28 products already have theirs, the rest follow as he sends them.

A shop built for the phone

On a phone the shop reads like the butcher's price list: one line per product, the thumbnail, the price per kilo, the weight and the button, with the aisles pinned to the top of the screen. You order with one hand, in the queue or on the tram.

The butcher runs it himself

A price that changes, a product out of stock, a closing day, the barbecue section in summer, the raclette in winter: he sets it all from Studio, on his phone, and the site follows. He is also the one who opens and closes online orders.

An assistant for the questions

Opening hours, the address, how to order, how far ahead: the site assistant answers at any hour. The butcher stays at the block.

What the site brings

  • Search visibility that we handle for him: the butcher comes up on its name and on neighbourhood searches.
  • A shop of 48 products, ready to take orders: the Saturday queue has a way out, you order ahead and the package waits at the counter.
  • A catalogue that finally has its real photos, all in the same style.
  • A site in three languages that the butcher keeps up to date himself, without going through us.

Running a butcher shop or food store?

We do the site, the shop, the photos and the search work. Then you run it all from your phone, from €49/month. You stay at your craft.
